Playing with Dough is a very beneficial activity for toddlers, it’s more beneficial for children with– delay in speech, cognitive impairments or specially-abled. However they might take time or prefer a better way to play with it. Sometimes just rejected because they find it difficult to manipulate the Dough.
Here are six tips you could use or suggest your friends who need help.
- Avoid Scent:– many dough as well as DoughrRemom are perfumed.This might be a turn off for children with sensory issues so, we could try using non-scented ones. (you could DM us or leave a note for non-scented ones at the checkout.
- Use Of Tools:-adding tools and props is always an advantage with a dough for children of all needs.This helps them to explore the dough in many interesting and different ways and also engages them with its cause and effects.
- Try Different Textures:– we could use different textures in the dough like petals,glitters, sequences, beads, seeds etc to give an added texture and to explore the use of fingers and palms with it.
- Inside a bag:- Few kids find it messy to touch the dough so giving them it into a transparent Ziploc will help them engage with the dough.
- Slow exposure:- Never overwhelm a child with many colors or variety or quantity take it slow, take step-by-step the slow and interesting you make the introduction with the child the long way it goes.
- Move on:- few children never make friendship with Dough and it’s absolutely okay cause everyone has their own likes in dislikes, never force or impose activity. If they get aversion then it will be for many things all together, so move on.
