Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Play dough or Clay dough (some call it normally)
It’s a mixture of Flour salt and oil made in different colors for little ones to play with and make small things out of it.
Kids while playing with the dough work on their fine & gross motor skills.

When you see the clay dough is getting crumbly just add a few drops of hot water as required and give it a good knead.

Clay dough is easily available in stores and online but to make all you need is a soft pliable mixture of Flour, salt, oil kneaded with water, and a few drops of color.

Once your child has finished playing with dough always wash their hands under tap water.

When we say that Doughremom (our clay) is taste-safe and not edible we mean that if the little one accidentally eats a small quantity of dough then it’s completely safe and it won’t harm the child in any way as all ingredients used are kitchen ingredients. But it is not recommended to be eaten or marked as edible cause the quantity of salt in Doughremom dough is quite high which cannot to consumed at once and is not safe for their little digestive system.

Yes, Dough Re Mom has a fragrance for each color. Except for bio-dough which is completely natural dough. But if want fragrance-free dough then you can leave a note with your order or simply send us a mail at info@doughremom.com

DoughReMom has a shelf life of 6 months if for instance you open the box and find it all dried up don’t throw it, just add a few drops of hot water and a few drops of oil and knead it. It will be brought back to life. Also, once you open it can be enjoyed for more than 2 hours of active playtime before you will want to rehydrate your dough re mom again.

Always make sure you give appropriate quantity to play. As the quantity that Dough Re Mom comes in (to save on your shipping and as well to get longer play life) is too much to play all at once.

*Always use a Plastic mat/dining table mat underneath to play. The newspaper will soak in all the oil and make it dry quickly. Always cover the dough in airtight boxes and fit size boxes so that the air doesn’t let it dry out

*If you see signs of it getting dried i.e salt being crystallized on top then knead it with the help of little Kitchen oil and it will be fresh as new.

*Also, during monsoons the air has a lot of moisture in it (or if you live in humid locations) then the dough instead of getting dried will become watery cause the moisture acts up with the salt. In that case, you add a little all-purpose flour and knead it to get its shape back.

As ALWAYS -When You Love Dough Re Mom, Dough Re mom Loves You Back.

Doughremom is an open-ended sensory play material. It is recommended to introduce playing with play dough to your child once your child is 1.8 years old and not before that. So for a 1.5-year-old to about 3 years of age, all you have to do is just keep the dough with a few accessories like a rolling pin stamp and child-safe scissors.

Focus on skills that you can teach your child like rolling, pinching, squashing, squeezing, and stamping. These are the activities to be done at the beginning. As the child grows each child has his or her way of imaginative play with the dough but at the same time, many academic concepts can be taught like the alphabet, numbers, shapes, etc.

Doughremom is an open-ended sensory play material, it’s completely imaginative play. For a start just keep the dough with a few accessories like a rolling pin stamp and child-safe scissors.

Doughremom is 100% taste-safe but not edible. When we say taste safe it means that if accidentally your child takes it in the mouth then there is no harm. In the making of doughremom, there is nothing that goes into it which is not present in a kitchen. We make it with the most sorted-out quality ingredients because we know it’s for those small little humans who like putting everything into their mouths.

Now, why is this not edible then you make ask?  The only preservative we add to this to keep it away from mold and getting spoiled is a lot of salt. And when we say a lot it’s ¾ of the salt. And it’s no way safe to eat that much salt all at once. So if your child puts a little into the mouth then it’s safe, all you have to do is give them more water throughout the day to flush out any salt in the stomach.

DoughReMom is made with the intent to give sensorial exploration and to strengthen the gross and fine motor skills of the child. It’s an open-ended and imaginative play. In the process of playing a lot of things are learnt by the child intentionally and unintentionally. Here are very benefits as well as learning outcomes with the use of DoughReMom:

When this child pokes, punches, pinches, tears, and rolls the clay a lot of muscles are being used. That’s the first and far most important benefit of it. These are the same muscles which as he grows will help him point, write, cut, eat, pick and push (the buttons). These are the fine motor skills which are developed and strengthened.

While playing with Doughremom they are having a lot of thoughts running through their mind. They are imagining what they will make, what colours they would use, how would they shape and how will they place them. So, now you imagine the amount of concentration it’s building and how they are going to use all of this and execute their thoughts. With all of this there is reduce the use of screens and now are productively using their eyes as well as hands together to put up a scene/item of their imagination. Their eye-hand coordination and concentration are at a positive use here.

We had given a group of children a task to make a garden set-up with Doughremom and we were amazed to see the creativity they bought to it. The garden not only had a variety of flowers but they made snails, butterflies, a small hut a kennel and a beautiful bench. All this in 3-6 years old’s. This hands down prove how it helps in bring out the creativity of the child.

Coming to the Vocabulary. Not only the child picks up new words while playing with the dough but as parents, we too can add so much to this to increase their library of words. Like literally you can put words into their mouth. Now as you read these images you are using these words with a 2-year-old while he is with the Dough-Pick this, keep this, mix this, the colour is vibrant, it’s so soothing, what a beautiful cup, hey I thought that was difficult, dig into this, flatten this, that’s a square. Could you imagine the amount of teaching that would happen along the way? Through this, their VOCABULARY is deepened and broadened.

The list of benefits can be more but would like to highlight one last one from my end and that would be that it is THERAPEUTIC. The very nature of it being malleable, squishy, squashy, and becomes whatever you want it to be given so much calmness & satisfaction from within and that is the whole reason why it is loved equally by children as well as adults.

I hope this was just enough for you to begin your Playing with the Dough Journey. Get started now and find more benefits as you play with it along with your kids. Yes, you caught it right this also gives you Ample Parent-child time or you could choose to get just my time too!

Yes, it’s completely Nontoxic as this has been certified taste-safe and free of preservatives and heavy metals. It’s been tested and certified by an IADFAC laboratory which checks for food safety and standards.

The store-bought play dough has chemicals like borax and petroleum by-products added. But Doughremom is completely made from kitchen ingredients and also comes with 8X play life. Our doughs could be revived with hot water and oil drops if you see them getting dry and difficult to play with it which makes them reusable too. These also come in various themes and colors which are not catered to by many dough brands yet.

1 year is too early for you to introduce playdough to your child.

Though playdough has immense benefits it also comes with High Salt content and chemicals(in the commercial store-bought one) which could pose a High Risk if the child gulfs in a quantity more than bite size!

Also, a year-old baby yet has not developed the cognitive or motor skills to enjoy or get anything out of playing with playdough which might

bringing them more frustration than fun.

Alternatively, you can fill a balloon with DoughReMom and give him to squish and squash but yes, it should be completely done under parental guidance as we don’t want him to put the balloon in his mouth either❤️

Hope this helps!

And the right age starts from 1.8 years and above.

If this is the first time you are introducing the dough then the following suggestions can be considered:

  1. Any three of the colors your child likes and recognizes.
  2. Shapes and color mixing kit as it comes with colors, a shape cutter, a rolling pin, and a knife. Shapes and colors are something that the child picks up easily and at the very beginning.
  3. Rainbow kit- it has all the colors plus it has activities and games added specifically for the child to work on. It also has stamps to learn about cause and effect working on their hand & eye coordination.

Yes, mine is too handmade and also yet homemade so why should they buy it?

*At Doughremom dough we buy ISI-marked ingredients and not from any Grocery Store nearby.

*We continuously take tests and certificates to keep up with the industry norms.

*We don’t add essential oils as they are not Mouthing safe.

*We don’t use tap water to make our doughs and in 4 years of me making DoughReMom not once has it molded.

* We don’t add preservatives to our doughs.

*We don’t overburden nature by adding plastic boxes for our dough.

*We save time for many who don’t have the time to make and instead would love to use that time to play and spend quality time with their kids.

*We make and pack every order with a lot of love and positive vibes.

* And lastly, it is made by Shlok’s mother, if not your kid’s mother!

Hi, this is our way of tackling this issue,

* give only an Appropriate quantity to play with,  do not give everything at once.

* try and give combinations of primary colors together so that we get a secondary color that can be used.

*Always teach your child to respect love and use the creations he makes. It could be mixed colors or anything that he makes out of his art and craft projects everything is used and not thrown.

*While we make creations we mostly try not to press two different colors on each other we try to keep it soft so the colors don’t mix.

*And while putting DoughReMom back we segregate the like colors and then give them a good mix.

*Yes sometimes we have different colors mixed to give us a very dark color which may not be soothing to the eye.

But we try and use it for different purposes sometimes to make the hair, or the road or the mountains.

Just by having an open perspective on things and by inspiring your child to do so. – That’s one of the reasons for Playdough being called an open-ended toy because there is no right or wrong way to use it!
